Day 3

Today we started to actually do some physical work on the Barn. We not only started on the Barn, but also on the waterhole that will be fed by an underground spring. Once it's full, it should attract lots of wildlife, including all sorts of birds, kudus and various other animals.

The source of the underground spring

While working on the Barn, we saw a few ostriches, a bunch of baboons (who don't appear to be especially  happy that we're taking the Barn from them!), an inquisitive lizard, and most worryingly, a Black Widow spider's nest, with all of it's eggs!

Uh oh! That is not eggs-cellent!
We got quite a lot done today, together with Michael, Kuzuko's top maintenance guy, including; recovering all the good wood from the soon to be water feature, removed the divide in the Barn, took out window frames, removed all the excess wire from the ceiling struts, opened up all of the (many!) cracks in the walls in preparation for cementing, and gave it all a good clean. As a result, it's already starting to look a lot better!

Gerhard also organised a digger for us to start clearing out all the rubbish from the waterhole, and it was great to see the work on it begin and big changes already being made.

Today we also got our shopping, which is a lot more complicated than your usual shopping at home! Going to the nearest store isn't just nipping down the road, it is actually the equivalent of driving from Oxford to London on a dirt road! We gave our shopping list to a Kuzuko staff member, who does everyone's shopping for them in the nearest town of Somerset East. Thank you, Tammy!
